Our yarns

The mulberry silk Nm 8/2 yarn has quite a bit of depth in the colors of the dye work and it has an elegant sheen and a smooth surface. When used in both warp and weft, this yarn is exceptionally well suited for projects with simple weaving patterns which focus on showcasing the dye work.

The mulberry silk cordonnet Nm 12/3 yarn has a structured thread that gives the colours a satin sheen. When used in both warp and weft, it is well suited for showcasing complex twills and other architectural weaving patterns.

Warping instructions

Each bundle is secured with several choke ties: one or more ties around the entire warp and two tied around the end loops. This is to allow dressing of your loom either front-to-back or back-to-front. The cross is a double thread cross, and is secured and marked by a thick thread. Each bundle is finger-crocheted into a chain.

Please pass the cross end through the last crochet loop in order to unravel the chain. In order to prevent tangling and to preserve the alignment of the colours, please keep each choke tie on for as long as possible and untie them one at a time while dressing the loom.

Some weavers like to reserve a couple of threads for future repairs of the woven product, or to use floating selvages. An often used SETT for this yarn is 6-8 threads / cm.

Characteristics of handwoven products

There are several normal handwoven characteristics that are NOT flaws or faults. They are cosmetic only in nature and do not affect the integrity of the fabric.

  1. Overlaps of weft yarn for about 5 cm might be visible in places. These indicate bobbin changes. These changes are kept to a similar colour to the warp, to minimise their visibility.
  2. Overlaps of warp indicate repairs on the loom of factory knots in the threads that have escaped detection during warping.
  3. Occasionally a factory knot might escape detection.
  4. In places, faint weft lines might be visible.

Washing instructions

During the dyeing process, the yarn is washed until the rinsing water is clear. The handwoven products are washed again before shipping. However, when a woven product is washed for the first few times after use, some colour bleeding is normal and to be expected. The bleeding can be slightly more pronounced for more saturated colours.

Please wash your product in cold water with a small volume of wool/silk detergent to prevent adjacent colours from contaminating each other, gently squeeze the water out and lay flat to dry. Vinegar/citric acid can be added in the last -clear- rinsing water if so desired, but it is not necessary. Vinegar/citric acid should not be added if the rinsing water is not yet clear.

Returns and exchanges

We do our best to ensure the photos of the warps and shawls are as accurate as possible. However, they are hand-dyed, the colour variations cannot be fully captured by camera and the colours you see in on your screen are approximate.

Please inspect the purchased product carefully upon receit and reach out to us as soon as possible if you wish to return or exchange the product. The warps should be returned in original state, with all the choke ties intact. Please only undo these ties when you have decided to keep the product.

A product returned within 14 days after receiving it qualifies for a full refund. The postal costs including tracking are not refundable.
